The Prestige Performance Race Team announced today its plans to compete with two Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 race cars in the 2016 North American Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series. Shinya Michimi will pilot the number 1 Prestige Performance liveried car at the North American events, to be held at Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen, Road America, Boston, and COTA, as well as at the World Final to be held in Valencia, Spain.
Building upon its legendary 2015 debut, Prestige Performance Race Team will again partner with Wayne Taylor Racing for the 2016 season. In 2015, the Prestige Performance Race Team achieved incredible success during its inaugural season in the North American Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series, finishing second in the 2015 Driver Points Standings in the Pro Category, and third in points in both the 2015 Team and Dealer Standings. The team also earned two wins, two 2nd place, and three 3rd place finishes in the Pro category and two 3rd place finishes in the Pro-Am/Am categories in their debut season.
After spending the last few years racing abroad, Michimi, who is a Cincinnati, Ohio native, is looking forward to running in his home country with Prestige Performance Racing in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America series for 2016. He most recently competed in the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe series with Italian team VSR, where along with his teammate, they had a solid debut season, taking the class win at Monza, and 2nd place podiums at Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamps. Michimi was also named to the Lamborghini Young Drivers Program in 2015. Before making the switch to GT cars in 2015, he had success in open wheel racing including a win at Estoril in the 2014 Auto GP Championship, poles and podiums in support races for F1 and WEC in the MRF Challenge India and Formula Challenge Japan series, and was a past Formula Toyota Racing Scholarship Winner and part of the Toyota Driver Development Program in Japan.
Shinya: “I am proud to announce that I will be racing in the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America Series this year with Prestige Performance Race Team. I’m really excited to get the season started in Laguna Seca, as this will be my first chance to race in my home country. Thank you to everyone at Prestige Performance/Lamborghini Paramus and Wayne Taylor Racing for this incredible opportunity. This is an incredibly accomplished team, and I am confident that we will be competitive right from the start and capable of challenging for the championship this year.”
