Shinya Michimi and Kei Cozzolino will pair up to drive the number 16 Huracán for Vincenzo Sospiri Racing in this year’s Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe championship. The championship shadows the Blancpain Endurance Series and follows them to world renowned tracks; Monza, Silverstone, Paul Ricard, Spa Francorchamps and the Nurburgring. The final round of the European series will be held in the U.S. at Sebring Intl. Raceway, followed by the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo World Final. Each year the World Final event brings together all the best teams and drivers from the Super Trofeo Europe, Asia and North America series to compete against each other. All races are also viewable via Live streaming or replays on the Official Lamborghini YouTube.
Cozzolino, of Italian Japanese origin, is 27 years old and brings a wealth of experience to the team having raced in Formula 3 and Formula Nippon before taking a break from motorsport in 2011.
Michimi, of Japanese American origin, is 21 years old and worked with Vincenzo Sospiri in 2014 in the Auto GP series, picking up a fastest lap at all 3 circuits he raced at, as well as winning the series finale in Estoril.
Kei Cozzolino: After racing for many years in Japan in single-seaters, this year will be my first experience of racing in Europe and in Gt cars. I’m very excited about this opportunity and looking forward to racing in this wonderful championship with VSR.
Shinya Michimi: I am very excited to be part of this new program with Vincenzo and I’m also very pleased to team up with Kei as he has a lot of experience and I’m sure we will be a strong team. Together with Vincenzo and his talented team of engineers and mechanics, I am confident we will be competitive from the start. I can’t wait to race at the prestigious tracks of the Championship with the iconic “raging bull” on the bonnet.
Vincenzo Sospiri: This is our first step into the world of GT racing and we are ready for the challenge. I’m very happy that Kei and Shinya will be part of our team. The series kicks off at Monza from April 10-12.
